The Tapping Revolution: Is this simple technique destined to replace counselling?

The next time you feel completely stressed out, you want everything to go away… if you knew you could radically change that feeling in minutes and at the same time change your DNA expression, improve your immune function, lower the stress cortisol in your body, will that keep you reading...?

Those who have been for a treatment with me will know, I draw hugely on Ancient Chinese Acupressure when balancing circuits around the body which need attention, both to clear emotions and to shift energy. EFT/tapping is a technique I’ve been using for a while to deepen this process.

What is tapping?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or tapping is a form of energy psychology, which combines Ancient Chinese Acupressure (energy medicine) with modern psychology (including NLP).

The practice consists of tapping with your fingertips on specific pressure points while talking through a wide range of emotions, traumatic events and negative memories. This sends a signal back to the stress centre in your brain called the amygdala and it tells it to calm down.

Why does it work?

We’ve all been told to make positive affirmations to attract better things but all too often the negative emotions, beliefs and experiences of our past stored in our subconscious obstruct the desired benefit.

The best way of clearing these obstructions is to ‘tap’ into your subconscious, in a similar way to Hypnosis but with the added bonus of also changing the energy surrounding these very emotions, beliefs and experiences by tapping on meridian/energy pathway. ‘Once you negative emotions, beliefs and experiences have been processed and released, you’re free to feel positive again.’ (Nick Ortner)

That is why EFT is a powerful method that alters your subconscious brain, energy system and body all at once.

What is the success rate? And how does it compare to CBT or counselling?

Clinical trials have shown that this stimulation of acupressure points around the body can change your DNA expression, radically reduce your stress hormone cortisol, even change brain’s pathways. Trials have found CBT and tapping to get the same outcomes but the difference is the time it takes: it only takes half the amount of time to achieve that outcome with tapping compared with CBT, and the results last, for example with a craving.

What can it be used for?

EFT is a proven method for clearing stuck energy, removing old beliefs, patterns and barriers and thereby achieving balance, peace and joy. EFT is also a powerful alternative treatment for physical pain and emotional distress. Problems EFT are commonly used for are…

  • Anxiety

  • Addictions

  • Cravings

  • Weight loss

  • Chronic Pain

  • Menopause

  • Insomnia

  • PTSD
